I am interested in 68Whiskey but I am still looking into every career that interests me. I was told that was the only job that popped up and there were 6 slots left so they pulled it for me. Wondering if they specifically only looked for that one. I am interested in other areas and wondering when I sit down with my counselor there will be other openings if I can change my MOS?! Just want to make sure I can get something I will really enjoy!
If that MOS was reserved for you it will automatically pop up for the career counselor at MEPs. You are not obligated to take it though, so you can ask for him to take a second to look in the system. They do hate this though, they are very busy and to them it is a waste of time because you already have a reservation. Also, recruiters don't like it because someone else who wanted that job may have lost out cause you chose it and took it off the system. However, this is your future, so do what you gotta do. I will warn you that you will feel pressured, it just comes with the territory, so be respectful yet strong. You should also talk to your recruiter about your intentions, they don't like surprises. Good Luck!
Thanks for responding. I just sent a message to my recruiter to take a second look as well. I assume because it was the first MOS I mentioned they just grabbed it for me but I have been looking into as much as I can to pick the best fit for me.
Definately, That is a very popular job though, so if you can't get anything else you want, you should be happy with that one. Your reservation is only good for 7 days, so let me know what you decide. Good Luck!
68Whiskey is hard to get? Well my recruiter is looking at jobs for someone else tomorrow so he will tell me what is on there. Might not qualify for security clearance for the other things I want anyway. I just want to love my job since I plan on staying in as my career longterm. What do you know about 68 Whiskey? People love it? Why is it so hard to get?
**** yeah, it's a popular MOS, from what I hear of course. Medics are awesome and have a ton of advanced training oppourtunites and are always needed. Suffice to say, the medical feild has been the largest growing feild in America for like decades now. Great opportunity on the outside. The availability depends on the time of the year, the Army's fiscal year is calculated different then a regular year, some years they close the MOS off because it is too full before the FY end. I have seen several posters on here who were upset that they didn't have 68W available for them, that is why I said you were lucky. But, just cause it's popular, doesn't mean it's what you want. So take a look at MEPS if you can, but be openminded and enjoy the experience.
Well, the official title is healthcare specialist. So, there is more involved then just battlewounds, etc. The medical feild is a very lucrative and secure environment in America, the world really. It is a great place to start.
